The Peasants, Jagna, a peasant girl, is forced to marry Maciej, a much older and wealthier farmer, despite her love for her son Antek. Over time, Jagna becomes the object of jealousy and hatred among the villagers and has to fight to maintain her independence. The dramatic twists and turns of the story set in the 19th and 20th century rural Poland are intertwined with the changing seasons, the heavy work in the fields, and traditional festivals.
